How Your Skin Tans

The tanning process is a series of simple steps that your skin undergoes when exposed to ultraviolet light.

For maximum results ALWAYS apply a specially formulated tanning lotion. We recommend Swedish Beauty, Australian Gold, and Designer Skin products - just to name a few products sold at Paradise Tanning. When tanning outdoors be sure to use a lotion with SPF.

A tan is created when UV light from the sun or a tanning bed comes into contact with your skin. Below the surface of your skin are specific cells called melanocytes, which are stimulated with the presence of UV light and create a pigment called melanin. The melanin is what works its way to the surface of your skin, combining with oxygen and turning into a brownish color that we all work towards – also known as a tan!
